NAG ACTION is a monthly meeting with concerned citizens from all parts of Greenpoint & Williamsburg looking to learn more and do more in the neighborhood. The goal is to bring together any and all types of organizers, activists, local leaders, business owners, and residents to discuss, learn, and take action in the neighborhood. Typically the issues tackled fall under one of NAG’s main organizing areas (Open Space, Transportation, Affordable Housing & Community Character)
October’s theme is the (infamous) Newtown Creek. The 3.5 mile long estuary that runs from Greenpoint to East Williamsburg has long been neglected, having been disgustingly polluted from the 1870’s on… As the federal government begins its long process to clean the creek, it is important that people in the neighborhood stay informed and engaged in the process.
The Action “meeting” will follow a skill-share format, inviting anyone and everyone who wants to talk about or learn more about the Newtown Creek to come and actively participate in the conversation. Topics will range from the facts of a healthy estuary ecosystem, through the history of industrial pollution, to the impact of Superfund status. As always, NAG Action will end with a brainstorm of possible community and individual actions.
When: Tuesday, October 5 · 7:00pm – 8:30pm
Where: Greenpoint Manufacturing & Design Ctr. (GMDC) 1205 Manhattan Ave
