NAG ACTION! September 7: Tenants’ Rights

Join us on Tuesday, September 7 for the next NAG ACTION!  This month’s subject will be Tenants’ Rights.  Led by NAG’s tenant organizer, Ryan Kuonen, we will gather together to discuss strategies for lease negotiation and review basic NYC housing law and tenants’ rights (Not just for rent stabilized tenants!).
Learn about:

  • Rent Regulation
  • Evictions & Housing Court
  • Security Deposits
  • Repairs
  • and much more.

We will also be joined by Matthew Bethell, who is leading a new campaign: Support Williamsburg Building Service Workers.  The issue of the rights of those living in buildings in Williamsburg also extends to those that work in these buildings day to day. The SWBSW campaign is seeking to raise awareness around the issue of workers’ rights in the new developments on the Williamsburg waterfront.  In particular, two workers were recently fired from 184 Kent Ave. for trying to organize a union and the campaign is seeking community support for the workers’ reinstatement. But more broadly, this session will explore how the wider Williamsburg community can respond to the impact of new developments on building service workers rights, pay, and conditions, because new development should provide quality jobs for local people.
