In less than one month, one of NAG’s favorite ways to celebrate the season of sunny days, sundresses & tank tops, hot dawgs & bbqs, and a vibrant local community is through our neighborhood’s version of the DOT World Class Streets Initiative, Williamsburg Walks.
What exactly is Williamsburg Walks? On a grand scale, it is part of the DOT’s Weekend Walks program. On a local level, it is when Bedford Avenue is closed to traffic for a section of blocks on the Northside and the community curates a street filled with open space, music, games & art. 2011 will be the 4th year for Williamsburg Walks. This year the event is being organized by NAG and the Northside Merchants Association.
Like we said, Williamsburg Walks is right around the corner. On Saturday June 11th and Saturday June 18th, Bedford Avenue will be closed to car & truck traffic from N4th to N12th from 12-8pm. That is 2 Saturdays of pedestrian fun and 8 blocks of open space for creative play.
We still have some room for community groups to create a livable street. We are looking for buskers and street artists, kids programmers, DIY skillshares, local food give-aways, and lots of other creative ideas to be realized. Please contact us immediately if you would like program an activity/”liveable” space at Williamsburg Walks 2011. Email firstname.lastname@example.org
