UPDATE November 2: The Gala is on – please come out and join us!
In case you haven’t noticed, we have a big event coming up next Saturday, November 3rd (buy your tickets here). In addition to being our annual fundraiser, this year’s gala is a celebration of the NAG career of our founding Executive Director, Peter Gillespie. Peter is retiring from his executive role at NAG as of November 1st (don’t worry – Peter will still be an important part of NAG), and we want to send him off with a bang!
This year’s gala will be at Biba, located at 110 Kent Avenue. When NAG started 18 years ago, this site was slated to be part of the city’s waste transfer plan. NAG was formed to fight against garbage dumps on our waterfront, and to fight for a publicly-accessible waterfront for all North Brooklyn residents.
This year, NAG is also honoring two community non-profits whose work we admire, and whose missions are important complements to the work Peter has done at NAG for the past 18 years. Along with NAG, Organizations United for Trash Reduction and Garbage Equity (O.U.T.R.A.G.E.) has continued to fight for environmental justice in the city’s waste transfer policies. Industrial retention and a sane industrial policy have also been important core issues, and the Greenpoint Manufacturing and Design Center (G.M.D.C.) has been at the forefront of providing affordable industrial space throughout North Brooklyn.
As at past galas, food and drink will be provided by local bars, restaurants, brewers, vintners and distillers. And there will be live music, DJs and dancing.
Please come join us! Tickets are $75 per person; tickets and sponsorship packages are available at Brown Paper Tickets.
UPDATE: We want to make sure you can join us for the gala – so now through Monday, NAG is having a 72-hour half-off ticket sale. Go to Brown Paper Tickets, click on “Enter Password or Discount Code” and use the discount code “peter” to find the half-off tickets!
