Neighbors Allied for Good Growth (NAG) is excited to announce the launch of a free reusable takeout container program in partnership with Common Ground Compost, Anella, and Toro Ironworks Restaurants. Starting December 8, 2016, customers at these restaurants can opt for reusable containers instead of disposable ones at no extra cost.

This pilot program, funded by the Greenpoint Community Environmental Fund (GCEF), aims to reduce waste in the restaurant sector by encouraging the use of reusable containers. Customers can return these containers to the participating restaurants, where they will be washed and reused, promoting a more sustainable approach to takeout.

This initiative builds on NAG’s previous efforts to audit waste and promote composting in Greenpoint. With 3,605 pounds of waste audited from six restaurants, NAG found that an average of 165 pounds of food scraps per restaurant are sent to landfills daily. By integrating reusable containers into the waste stream, this program aims to reduce the burden on our environment.
