Join NAG and Pratt\u2019s SAVI for the beta release of our ToxiCity Map!! We\u2019ll be showing off the map and testing usability on October 20th, 7pm, at Sunview Luncheonette<\/strong> (221 Nassau Ave in Greenpoint).<\/p>\n\n\n\n As many locals know, Greenpoint and Williamsburg have a robust industrial history. Unfortunately, this rich manufacturing past may have a hidden cost: many residents are concerned that chemical contaminants from past industrial uses are impacting the health and well being of current residents.<\/p>\n\n\n\n In an effort to educate residents about the neighborhood\u2019s toxic past, NAG is working with Pratt\u2019s Spatial Analysis and Visualization Initiative (SAVI) to create a map which highlights areas that could be of concern to residents. The funding for this project is provided by New York State\u2019s Department of Environmental Conservation (DEC), through their Environmental Justice Community Impact Grant program.<\/p>\n\n\n\n The beta version of the map, which will be released in October 2015, displays polluted and potentially polluted sites in Greenpoint and Williamsburg, categorized by site type. Specifically, the map aggregates publicly available data to plot properties subject to environmentally-related regulation by government agencies, locations of prior oil and other chemical spills, plumes of various chemicals, brownfields, the area\u2019s Federal and State Superfund sites, as well as other potentially polluted sites. The map also indicates the locations of waste transfer stations and the area\u2019s truck routes.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
