We’ll look at air pollution in North Brooklyn from a variety of perspectives:

Personal: Presentation by Michael Heimbinder, Brooklyn native environmental and health activist, founder of HabitatMap and AirCasting, a platform for interactive pollution testing. Learn about how you can register to wear an air monitoring device!
(Please note that AirCasting participation requires an Android phone.)

Community: Learn about local air pollution reduction campaigns in the neighborhood (BQE decking, trucking, garbage equity) from our event co-sponsors.

Co-sponsors: El Puente, St. Nicks Alliance, O.U.T.R.A.GE. Organization United for Trash Reduction & Garbage Equity)

National: Brief presentation by John Filippelli, U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) Region 2’s Clean Air Division Director on a new proposed rule to reduce carbon pollution from existing power plants.

NAG’s Community Input on Community Mapping Project Event Series: NAG is creating an interactive map of toxic  “hot spots” and any corresponding illnesses and diseases in Greenpoint and Williamsburg and putting together a series of  educational events. This project is funded by a grant from the NYS Department of Environmental Conservation.
